La Dirección de Cooperación Internacional y Asistencia Técnica es una unidad administrativa adscrita a la RectorÃa encargada de guiar el proceso de internacionalización institucional y centralizar todo el manejo y funciones de cooperación internacional y de asistencia técnica que se encuentren en otras unidades académicas o administrativas y constituirse en el punto de enlace obligatorio de la Universidad de Panamá en sus relaciones internacionales.
Esta dirección está formada estructuralmente por:
- El Consejo Directivo integrado por el señor Rector de la Universidad de Panamá o quien él designe, en calidad de Presidente;
- El (la) Vicerrector (a) de Investigación y Postgrado;
- El (la) Vicerrector (a) de Extensión;
- Un (1) Secretario que será el Director Ejecutivo de la Dirección de Cooperación Internacional y Asistencia Técnica;
- Dos (2) miembros designados por el señor Rector que puedan ser de la comunidad universitaria, nacional o alguna persona distinguida en el campo de las relaciones internacionales; todos, con derecho a voz y voto, salvo el Director Ejecutivo que tendrá sólo derecho a voz.
La DICIAT tendrá como unidades de apoyo a las unidades académicas y administrativas que existen dentro de la estructura  organizacional institucional, las cuales tendrán la función de asesorar a la DICIAT en los aspectos técnico - operativos en temas especÃficos.  Estas unidades respaldan el funcionamiento de la DICIAT por vÃa indirecta, en tareas separadas del trabajo operativo que ésta realiza.Â
En febrero de 2012, la DICIAT organiza actividad encaminada a la actualización de su plan estratégico, dando como resultado la nueva propuesta de mapa estratético.
ORGANIZATION
The Department of International Cooperation and Technical Assistance is an administrative entity attached to the Principal’s Office, which guides the institutional internationalization process and centralizes all management and functions of international cooperation and technical assistance that are in other academic or administrative divisions. It has become the mandatory focal point of the Universidad de Panamá in relation to international affairs.
This department is structurally formed by:
- The Board of Directors comprised by the President of theUniversidad de Panamá, or its nominee, as Chairman;
- The Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies;
- The Vice President of Extension;
- One (1) Secretary who shall be the Executive Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Technical Assistance;
- Two (2) members chosen by the Principal of the University. They may be of the university community, national or some renowned person in the field of international affairs, all, with voice and vote, unless the Executive Director who shall have only the right of voice.

The DICIAT will have as supporting entities the academic and administrative units that exist within the institutional organizational structure. These units will have the function of advising the DICIAT on technical and operating aspects related to specific topics. These units support the operation of the DICIAT in an indirect way. Moreover this is done through separate tasks from the operational work it performs.
Approved through the Extended Academic Council N° 34-12 held on July 11, 2012.
In February 2012, the DICIAT organized an activity which aimed at updating its strategic plan resulting in the new proposal of strategy map.
